Duckworth Challenge

photography & editing

the approach:

It’s a Winnipeg winter in December—icy streets, blowing snow and visible breaths. But inside the Duckworth Centre, the intensity was heating up. Fans are dressed in red, others in gold, but all are loud and proud of their side. It’s time for the Duckworth Challenge, the tradition between the Manitoba Bisons and Winnipeg Wesmen.

While it’s a basketball game, the photos capture the rivalry between the Bisons and Wesmen beyond only action photos. I paid more attention to details rather than the usual sports frames by capturing close-ups of teammates picking up each other, emotions after a slam dunk and shoes—very important to basketball players.
